Home Studio Animation Basics - 4 weeks in August
*This is an in-person class only*
In my home studio, you can learn the techniques animators have been using to make both big-studio and independent animation since the early 20th century — graphite on paper frame-by-frame animation. In this 4 week intro course, beginner animators will gain foundational skills that will open the door to more complex animated movement. Students will learn animation concepts like timing, spacing, ease, anticipation, overshoot, settle, keys, breakdowns, in betweens, wave action, looping, and MORE! Learning goals include: introducing students to foundational animation skills and vocabulary, introducing students to historical and contemporary animation, and achieving fluency using a light box, paper, and graphite to animate. By the end of the course, students will have several completed exercises as videos and have the confidence to animate their own ideas.
This class is suitable for beginners age 16 and up, and you should enjoy drawing and be willing to attend to detail. So, is this class for you? Are you interested in learning through doing and trying? Do you want to stretch your understanding of motion and movement? Are you curious about the world of independent and experimental animation? If any of these are "yes", you might be an animator waiting to happen!
Class will meet Tuesday evenings in the finished basement of my home in the Lakewood neighborhood of Durham, NC
